WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS

VB gave update regarding membership:

AM introduced as co-opted member, CM as Secondary Head Representative and JM as a representative of the Catholic Church

 

Nominations have been requested from the Primary Headteachers’ Federation and Reverend Simon Percy from Golftyn Primary School has been nominated as primary school representative.

 

An invitation has also been extended to Wendy White in her capacity as Director of Education for the Catholic Diocese of Wrexham, following the retirement of the previous postholder.

 

RW advised that Sue Jones stepped down 18 months ago so should no longer be on the list. RW was then invited to seek a new nomination on behalf of SACRE.

  • Secondary RE rep needed. VB will take this to Secondary Heads Fed meeting for nominations
  • Reminder to be sent to elected members who have not attended for some time.

Estyn Inspection Reports Update pdf icon PDF 71 KB

Decision:

Schools will be written to congratulating them on the positive comments contained within their inspection reports in relation to Religious Education and Collective Worship.

Minutes:

            VB summarised inspection reports from the autumn term of 2019. She will continue to feedback to Estyn regarding the lack of good examples cited in reports regarding Religious Education.

 

            Ysgol y Foel to be invited to the next meeting regarding the positive feedback from their recent Estyn inspection in relation to Religious Education.

 

            Schools will be written to congratulating them on the positive comments contained within their inspection reports in relation to Religious Education and Collective Worship.

7.

Verbal update on outcome of Welsh Government consultation on Religious Education

To receive a report at the meeting by Vicky Barlow, Senior Manager for

School Improvement, Education and Youth Portfolio.

 

Decision:

VB to circulate details to see if anyone can attend. VB to write to Wrexham SACRE to thank them for the invitation.

 

Minutes:

            VB provided verbal update. The new title for Religious Education (Religion, Values and Ethics) is problematic and there is still potential for discussion around this. We are currently awaiting the draft framework for Religious Education.

 

            WASACRE have requested that an Extraordinary Meeting is held by each authority to give feedback to WG. Wrexham SACRE are holding their meeting on 26/03/20 and have extended an open offer to join with this for a joint discussion. VB to circulate details to see if anyone can attend. VB to write to Wrexham SACRE to thank them for the invitation.

WASACRE minutes

·         To receive the minutes of the last meeting of the Association on 26 March 2019.   http://www.wasacre.org.uk/meetings.html

 

·         To agree attendance at the next WASACRE meeting on 17 March 2020 in Merthyr Tydfil.

Decision:

            VB to attend the next WASACRE meeting on 17 March 2020 in Merthyr Tydfil and notify the group of the date and venue for the summer term meeting straight afterwards so as many representatives as possible can attend.

 

            WASACRE have requested volunteers for their Executive Committee & for Vice Chair. VB offered to put her name forward and this was approved by the meeting.

 

Minutes:

VB provided a verbal update of key points from the last WASACRE Meeting:

 

·         Resources to be made available to all SACREs

·         It is hoped that SACREs will adopt the RE Framework alongside the new curriculum although they are not compelled to do so and could write own curriculum / syllabus. This would however require some considerable time and resource to complete.

·         WASACRE have written to Chief Education Officers regarding non-compliance with Religious Education requirements. This has been raised with secondary headteachers at a recent meeting of the Headteacher Forum. VB to bring further information to next meeting regarding the situation in Flintshire Schools around compliance to these requirements

 

            VB to attend the next WASACRE meeting on 17 March 2020 in Merthyr Tydfil and notify the group of the date and venue for the summer term meeting straight afterwards so as many representatives as possible can attend.

Annual Report for SACRE 2019-2020

To receive a report at the meeting by Vicky Barlow, Senior Manager for

School Improvement, Education and Youth Portfolio.

Decision:

VB to draft letter from Chair and send this to chair for approval tomorrow

Minutes:

            VB advised the meeting that she has drafted as much as she can at this point in time (copy circulated). Feedback requested by Friday 6th March 2020 and she will then email the final version. VB to draft letter from Chair to include. She will send this to chair for approval tomorrow.
